Strategies

Academic Year 08-09 Goal and Points of Focus

A. To accelerate implementation of CREATE’s long-term research and development agenda and promote institutional efforts to systematically refine teacher preparation practice through evidence-based improvement initiatives.

B. Focal Points

During the 2008-09 year, much of CREATE’s work will coalesce around 3 related but separate foci:

    • Developing and implementing a framework for the transformation of existing teacher preparation, currently referred to as “Schools of Professional Education” (ScOPE).  The framework is characterized by the following:
    • P-12 Learning as a primary research and development focus.
    • Program implementation based on a sound professional model of teaching which is employed consistently by university faculty.
    • Instructional delivery system that is assessment-centered and feedback-rich.
    • University-wide involvement in both content and pedagogy.
    • Responsive educational research that is actively disseminated and applied.
    • Continuous quality improvement based on product and process evaluation.
    • Continuing professional development for university faculty engaged in teacher preparation.
    • Active, research-based partnerships with public schools.
  • Texas Public Schools Research Network (TPSRN) will develop a responsive research agenda and initiate collaborative research studies
  • Empirical Research on Teacher Preparation and Effectiveness– CREATE will design and implement multiple research studies

Strategies

CREATE will attain this goal by implementing the following the following strategies:

  1. Refine and disseminate CREATE frameworks and other organizing tools to guide and focus a coherent body of research.
  2. Disseminate and refine PACE data and reports, and facilitate application of data to determine institutional needs and points of intervention.
  3. Strengthen and expand partnerships with public schools, other research organizations and professional associations.
  4. Promote prototype improvement projects and applied research within the consortium.
  5. Strengthen faculty research skills and university educational research capacity.
  6. Secure additional funding to support mission-centered research and related activities.
  7. Continue to strengthen internal management and communications.
