CREATE sponsored a two-year Teacher Induction Study involving researchers from 4 consortium universities and 14 Texas public school districts. Data on mentor support, workplace ecology, and mentor program infrastructure was collected from 451 novice teachers and their mentor teachers. Classroom pass rates and scale score from spring 2006 TAKS were collected on the novice teachers and 2145 comparison teachers who taught at the same campuses. |
It is frequently reported that after five years about 50% of new teachers leave the teaching field (NCTAF, 2002; National Center for Education Statistics, 2000). Using State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) data, CREATE researchers have found that in Texas, based on the 2002 certification cohort, the overall retention rate of teachers certified by CREATE institutions was 78.5%. This compares to a 74.9% retention rate for individuals in all certification routes in the same cohort. View Graph of findings. |
